Reserve Your Space in the March Workshop

SPEND A WEEKEND WITH MARILYN HUGHEY PHILLIS & CHERYL HARSHMAN AS YOUR GUIDES INTO CREATIVE REALMS

CELEBRATING THE CREATIVE SPIRIT:
a workshop of art and creativity

March 18-21, 2010
Sandscrest Retreat Center
Wheeling, WV

This workshop will emphasize the creative nature that is a part of each being. In the very act of creating, there develops a unique expressive image which creates the individual artistic statement. This can be a sacred and very personal act for each artist. That inner spiritual nature within each artist must be expressed in its truest form to create, through design and expressive energy, a work that has impact and also reaches the heart.

In the beautiful settings of trees and hills of Sandscrest, we can gather informally to search for nature's and our own message in our work. Some exercises will be suggested, but you are free to pursue your own search during the workshop. We seek to become better visual communicators through our paint, brushes, papers, and sharing of dreams and ideas.
Marilyn will share different approaches to your personal statement plus explorations of fluid acrylic paint and/or watercolor in ways of expressing nature's beauty.
All levels of experience accepted. A materials list will be sent on receipt of registration.

As you can tell from the photos, the skies cleared and we had a fabulous autumn weekend at the Sandscrest Retreat Center near Wheeling, WV. Marilyn Phillis jump started our workshop with some fun techniques, like painting with string, to loosen us up and help us jump right into paint. Cheryl demonstrated clay monoprinting and everyone got their hands muddy. What fun!

October Retreat Nears

The weather is changing and the leaves are turning colors. Our October retreat is coming up soon. We still have a few spaces waiting just for you. The weekend begins on Friday afternoon at 3 pm. Get settled in your room and spread out your art supplies. We will jump start your creative juices with a quick trick or two. Before dinner we will gather on the veranda and get to know the participants and from where they hail. Then we will move into the dining room where Sarah and Sandy will serve us the first of six delicious Sandscrest meals.

Saturday will be spent stretching personal boundaries. Marilyn will be available for suggestions, critiques, and nudges. Later in the day you can try your hand at clay monoprinting. This is an easy technique to learn and provides immediate satisfaction. As an intuitive process, it allows your inner artist to burst forth.

On Sunday we will have time to share our weekend's work before lunch and before leaving lovely Sandscrest.

Cost for the weekend, all inclusive is $395. A deposit of $100 is due by October 10. Checks can be made out and sent to

Cheryl demonstrates clay monoprinting, a technique that is fun, easy, intuitive and successful for first timers. The combination of intense painting and playful clayprinting has allowed artists to break through painting roadblocks and reach higher levels in their work.

Spaces are limited to ensure private work with the instructors. To hold your place a non-refundable $100 deposit will be required. Payment in full is due October 15, 2009.
